The prevalence of autism is on the rise, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With one in every 110 American children affected by autism, we are once again committed to helping Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, solve the autism puzzle.
To support the ongoing fight against this disorder, we are once again raising funds and awareness for Autism Speaks and have expanded our annual campaign to include Toys“R”Us, Canada. This marks the first time in our company’s history that our stores across North America have joined forces to support a unified philanthropic endeavor.
Now, customers at any of the approximately 850 Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us stores in the United States, nearly 70 Toys“R”Us stores across Canada or on our websites Toysrus.com and Toysrus.ca can make monetary donations to benefit Autism Speaks.
An additional element of the campaign to benefit Autism Speaks includes continuing to serve as the national sponsor of the Walk Now for Autism Speaks program. Beginning this month and continuing through November, this series of more than 80 fundraising walks in communities across North America is expected to attract thousands of participants and provide families, friends and professional caregivers an opportunity to contribute to, and show support for, the fight against autism. Last year, Autism Speaks raised more than $24.5 million through its Walk Now for Autism Speaks events. The complete event schedule can be found at www.autismspeaks.org.
All money raised during this campaign will go directly to Autism Speaks to fund important autism research programs and help provide a voice for children affected by the disorder.
